This might be the last part. Stupid head bolts.

Kinja'd!!!

I was able to quite easily separate the engine and trans, only spilling about a quart of ATF when I forgot the dipstick tube had been removed and I tipped it a bit. Oops.

Kinja'd!!!

Thankfully the torque converter, and ITS fluid stayed put.

Kinja'd!!!

With the trans on its little drum dolly, I rolled it out of the way to move the engine off of blocks, remove the exhaust Y pipe , and drop it onto a small pallet made for an engine. Maybe .

More pretty Pontiac blue!

Kinja'd!!!

REALLY good shape for sitting in the grass(?) for 20 years!

My plan was to remove the flexplate by hand (nope, too tight) and the heads (nope, too rusted) but pretty much ended there. Maybe this weekend I’ll bust out the ugga duggas and cut offs, because only ONE bolt is holding on each head. Being the forward most, they rusted the most and the heads of the bolts are between sizes, stripped, and too tight to do anything other than cut off to remove them. Should be fun.

Kinja'd!!!

So I shoved it against the wall for another day. Astute eyes will pick out the bolt heads on the bottom front edges of the heads... literally the things that ground disassembly to a halt. Oh well, maybe I’ll gather up some ambition later to go back at it.

Ugh, did they use a nylon timing gear like the 403? Show me that chain slop!

It is amazing how much these chains can stretch. Makes you wonder how much pre-stretching helps
